Maria José was born in Paysandú, Uruguay; country which, together
with Argentina, gave birth to tango dance.
She started her tango studies in Montevideo in the year 1995, taking
classes with different Uruguayan teachers.
In that city, in the year 2000, she met the well-known argentinian
teacher Rodolfo Dinzel; and fascinated with his teaching methodology,
she moved to Buenos Aires to study directly from him.
She spent 7 years studying intensivly with Rodolfo Dinzel in his
private studio.
Then she became his main assistant; and later, she started to
coordinate and organize all the teaching activities in his studio too.
After this stage, she started her own path, devoting to tango on the
stage, alongside with teaching.
As a dancer, she stood out as permanent dancer of the Orquesta del
Tango de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires, directed by Raul Garello.
As a teacher, she thaughted in The Dinzels Studio, in the Universidad
del Tango de Buenos Aires, the Tango School of the Dandi Mansion and
the Escuela Argentina de Tango among others.
At the same time, she travelled constantly to teach and collaborate
with tango teachers in academies in the interior of the country as
well as neighbouring countries, such as:
In Argentina: Necochea, Carlos Pellegrini (Provincia de Santa Fé), and
El Calafate (Provincia de Santa Cruz)
In Uruguay: Paysandú and Montevideo.
Nowadays, she is almost exclusively devoted to tango teaching and
research together with Felix Cosatto, her partner in tango, and in
life.
Above all, they teach groups, which is their main interest, together
with working in small communities where the tango still has a lot to
develop.
They prefers the kind of work for continuous periods of time, both in
their city of residence, Buenos Aires, and in the different cities
where they travels to year after year.
For this reason, they chooses to stay (in the cities where they
travel to) for long periods, so as to be able to develop more complete
teaching topics and programmes and to follow and supervise the
development of the teaching process in the student.
